There is no wrong or right way to sing these songs in this book. The only thing required is a clean heart and a desire to hear. Paul told us in 1 Corinthians 12:31 to eagerly desire the more significant gifts. Hearing the Lord is a more excellent gift. Why? It is greater because it’s the beginning of knowing the Lord in a greater capacity. Not just to hear and let what was said go in one ear and out the other but to obey, listen, and carry out what has been given. I have found that there are many in the body of Christ, and they have never heard the Lord.
Then some hear but are unsure of whose voice they are hearing. That is a sign of an untended relationship. Think about people you spend time with naturally. You learn their communication patterns as well as dislikes and likes by spending time. If we fellowship with man to learn, then we must fellowship with the Lord at a great measure to understand who He is in every facet of His being.
We need to hear from the Lord that we will obtain the Kingdom’s mysteries that we will be of significant effect when the Lord uses us. You can find a Scripture in Proverbs that tells us to get wisdom and then understanding. Wisdom is insight, and it opens the door of knowledge to carry out what you have learned. The more of the Kingdom we understand, the more wondrous works we can fulfill. Hearing from God is part of seeking the Lord. Isaiah 55:9 tells us that the heavens are higher than the earth, so are the ways of the Lord. Therefore, you can study God’s Word, and the Lord can speak to you that way. You may worship, and the Lord may speak to you then. Or you can have vision and dreams, and the Lord can talk then. However, there is also the time you can hear the Lord’s voice audibly.
Sometimes His voice is soft, but then there are times when God’s voice comes in like thunder. Psalm 29:3 states the voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of Glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters. If you continue to Psalm 29:4, the Bible adds the voice of the LORD is powerful; The voice of the LORD is full of majesty. To walk in power and glory at greater levels, we need to tap into hearing more than just from this world. God’s voice is one primary access often overlooked.
